raw seasonal smoothie of the day:
4 very ripe local fuyu persimmons
2 kiwis, with skin (skinning them removes a ton of nutrients)
2 dates
1 frozen banana
handful of frozen strawberry/mango/banana mix

Asian Cabbage Salad
this is the most delicious, fresh, easy asian salad i’ve ever had. full of fiber, vitamin c, omegas- you can’t go wrong making this in bulk for the rest of the week.
variations: don’t toast if you want it raw
soy free: use brown rice or quinoa instead of tofu, sea salt instead of miso/tamari, omit edamame
Recipe:
8 c red/green shredded cabbage
1 c chopped walnuts, toasted
1/3 c toasted sesame seeds
5 thinly sliced, toasted green onion tops
1/3 seasoned rice vinegar (or a combo of rice&brown plum)
10 inner celery leaves, chopped (not the stalks)
2/3 edamame (optional)
1.5 T raw grated ginger, toasted
1 T toasted sesame oil (i ran out, and used 1/2 T truffle, 1/2 T almond oil)
1/2 t black pepper
1 tsp red miso, dash of tamari. (or sea salt)
2 T agave (or brown sugar)
Sauteed small tofu squares (optional- had some sauteed with garlic, oil, paprika on hand)
Place cabbage, celery, edamame, ginger, and green onions in large bowl. add nuts/seeds. mix with veggies, toss lightly.
mix vinegar, oil, pepper, agave. drizzle in bowl and toss well.
eat immediately or let simmer overnight in the fridge.

raw juice + frozen bananas = mmmmmm
inspired by my favorite drink at whole foods..
-juice from 5-6 long carrots
-juice form 2 large cucumbers
-juice from 2 fresh gala apples
blend with 2 large frozen bananas

i added a single serving of raw vegan protein powder and a tablespoon of freeze dried acai. this makes a ton to last you a couple meals. optional to add those as well as unsweetened vanilla almond or rice milk. enjoy!

The Best Salad aka A Perfect Meal
I have been so busy with teaching yoga, practicing yoga/ pilates, eating, and enjoying time away from the computer. But this salad needs no justification!

It will fill you up and give you energy to power through the rest of your day. I eat this for breakfast and/or lunch & dinner. It never gets old for me.
Protein, vitamins, minerals, complex carbs.. it is perfect and delicious enough to eat all day.
I literally CRAVE kale daily now, and this salad. enjoy <3

-shredded kale or spinach (or both)
-sprouted bean mix
-shredded beets and carrots
-whole garlic bulbs, roasted
-red or green onion, diced
- heirloom tomatoes, sliced
-broccoli, coarsely chopped
-brown rice (about 1/4c per serving of salad)
-slathered in …
Raw Tahini Garlic Dressing
This makes a huge batch, so you can freeze some.
-4 c olive oil
-2 c raw tahini
-2 c Nama Shoyu
-3c Apple Cider Vinegar
-1/2 fresh garlic
-1 T fresh Oregano
1 T fresh Basil
blend all until smooth. I add extra ACV and garlic.

Meet Geronimo- a rescued Mockingbird Fledgling.
Although my tumblr is normally about really good food, I’m going to take this opportunity to share some info about what to do when you find a baby Mockingbird.
Mockingbird babies, once feathered, jump from the nest while still being unable to fly. Their nests are usually lower than 10ft high. They do this to explore, learn how to hunt, and practice flying with a safe watch from both parents who continue to feed them for another four weeks or so on the ground. Mockingbirds are known to attack cats and people (whom they can recognize!) when near the nest or a baby.
If you see a fledgling wandering around, do not immediately intervene. This is a critical time for them to adapt and learn basic survival skills. The only reason you should intervene is if domesticated animals are an immanent threat- such as my cat dragging this guy in twice, or if parents have abandoned the baby and you have not seen them for a whole day, or if he is injured. This baby did not only manage to survive my cat playing with him twice, but I also found him days later sitting in the middle of the road, and had to run out and stop a car before it crushed him. I then realized it was probably in my better judgement to take him in and make sure he had a better chance at life, learning how to fly safely under my “wing” before being re-released.
I have been feeding him warm, wet organic cat food. It’s a good idea to mix it up with your finger to make sure there are no hot spots that can hurt him. Cold food and rawe earthworms are dangerous and not proper food. I keep him in a spare bedroom in the closet, door open, in a tissued sideways shoebox with some branches to practice hopping on near by, and a tiny saucer of water. I keep the window open so he can look out and communicate with other birds. From what I’ve read, they like to eat every couple hours. I have also read that they can remember little notes you whistle when feeding them, and in a day or two they “get it’ and will make the same note back to you, to feed them. How cute is that?

Summer Love Smoothie- featuring Rainier Cherries
So today is free 7/11 slurpee day. But because a slurpee is 98% high fructose corn syrup and tap water, topped off with 2% food dye, gelling agents, and preservatives, I will gladly not be having one today. or any day, for that matter.. so here is a delicious, guilt-free alternative. sweet, creamy, and refreshing.
These cherries are a good source of vitamin C, vitamin A, calcium, potassium and iron. :)
- 1 tray of ice cubes
-1 cup vanilla oat milk
- about 15 pitted, de-stemmed rainier cherries
- 1 banana
- 2 dates
- 1 T lucuma powder
-1/2 T fresh squeezed lemon juice
blend all until well incorporated, and enjoy in the sun (don’t forget your mineral based sunscreen. hah.)
my blender sucks so i had two mangled dates to enjoy at the end.
this makes about one large glass.

Went on a very long walk to balboa park with a friend and a puppy to a dog park..came back and whipped up this snack . Very satisfying and full of restorative, digestible protein, seasonal antioxidants, and blood sugar balancing qualities (cinnamon).

Blueberries n Protein

1-2 c blueberries
1 c vanilla oatmilk
Dash or two of cinnamon
1packet of raw protein formula from Garden of Life
-shake all up in a sealed container until well dissolved.
Option to mash blueberries. Enjoy :)

Green Detox Drink of the Day
-put fruit through juicer on low settings, put veggies through on high. drink immediately, do not serve over ice as that will kill enzymes.
1 red delicious apple
1 granny smith apple
3 large carrots
1 small-apple sized golden beet
thumb size knob of ginger
1 lime, peeled
half a large lemon, peeled
2 big handfuls each of dandelion greens, parsley, and purple kale.
vanilla stevia drops or a TBSP of raw agave optional
*the greens used in here are powerful in aiding digestion and eliminating toxins from the body, while providing fruit that compliments the absorption of all kinds of trace minerals, vitamins, fiber, etc. so delicious and not bitter at all!!!

Cherimoya- the ice cream of fruit.
Apologies for not updating in a while, I just completed yoga teacher training and have been terribly busy studying practicing everyday. Updates will become bi/weekly now.
For the moment, familiarize yourself with this fruit. It is sometimes heart shaped (making it the most adorable fruit) and extremely nutritious. Also known as the custard apple, is a tropical fruit indigenous to Central and South America and now cultivated internationally. It has a tough, green outer rind covered with overlapping scales, and has a creamy white flesh that is sweet and juicy. The taste of cherimoya has been described as reminiscent of banana, papaya and pineapple. Packed with fiber, vitamins and minerals, it’s also a great source of energy in quality carbs.
Once it is so ripe the skin is about to burst, you can peel it open with your fingers and eat the insides as is, spitting out the seeds as you go.. or use it in smoothies, or raw ice cream. Try blending the meat (w/o seeds) with fresh coconut water, pineapple, banana, lime, maybe some greens. :)
